Test the soil before fertilizing. Each yard, while it may be similar to others in our area, is unique in its soil makeup. Depending on what you did in that area last year (or over the last few years), the chemical makeup of the soil could vary quite a bit. Therefore, before any fertilizer is applied, it is important to run a soil test to see if anything special is needed.
A typical soil test will tell you the levels of the nutrients Phosphorus and Potassium, the pH of the soil and the amount of organic matter. Thus allowing us to monitor and track the nutrient needs of your turf over time. There are do-it-yourself kits available, but they may not be all that helpful. We offer soil testing through an independent laboratory.
